What is digital cinema, Lev Manovich - response
I found this point interesting, "In digital filmmaking, shot footage is no longer the final point but just raw material to be manipulated in a computer..." This is pretty obvious, but coupled with the idea of the pixel and painting, it becomes somewhat unclear.
Question: How does the pixel differ from a painted mark, if both can be manipulated "by hand?"
Response: Aside from materiality, I find the similarities the author describes between painting and the pixel somewhat of a stretch. I understand the idea presented; however, I think the difference between the two is what allows the two to remain singular. I understand the various ways in which a painted mark can be manipulated, built or changed. My assumption would be that the manipulation of the pixel relies upon mathematical, geometrical and/or technical capabilities that are inherent to the program at use. Where as with painting, the hand, the physicality of the gesture by the artist is the program.

accomplishment
I want to achieve a better understanding of video, sound, and film producing and editing. I hope to create work that allows me to experiment with various types of software while using various media.
